Daytime activities for Tango 59 Degrees Stockholm City

We have now finalised the daytime milonga and café programme. The festival café will be open between 2 and 6pm from Wednesday to Saturday. You can drop in anytime for refreshments, sit around and chat with friends for a while, drink and eat, and each day, there will also be an informal daytime milonga/practica, with different guest DJs.

We are also thrilled to have three excellent ensembles play in the café: two for dancing, and one for listening.

And as a special treat, we are delighted to have Alexandra Prusa visit us, introducing the showing of her film "Blue Tango in Buenos Aires", on the Saturday. (For more information about "Blue Tango in Buenos Aires", see http://tango59degrees.com/bluetango.php or scroll down to the bottom of this message.)

Here's the programme:

Wednesday 10 August

2 - 6pm. The café is open for refreshments.

Sunday 14 August (Oscar II's Hall)

4pm to 6pm: We've added a relaxed afternoon milonga to round off Tango 59 Degrees in a gentle way. Admittance is free for workshop and package A-G participants, others pay 40 SEK (approx 4 €) at the door. The venue is Oscar II's Hall at Nybrokajen 11, right where all the lessons have been held during the festival. Drop in, say au revoir to new and old friends, and dance for a while before leaving for home, wherever that may be. DJ: Peter Bengtson.

Blue Tango in Buenos Aires

A Film Diary by Alexandra Prusa

Tango makes the soul move, and that is what I miss when I am not dancing. And so I keep asking myself, what the essence of this persistent need is? Of this crave for transcendence through dance. Maybe it’s merely a kind of longing – just longing. / Alexandra Prusa

In June 2004 the digital art publishers ArtAdventures put out Alexandra Prusa’s new audio-visual work on DVD.

For twenty years the Zurich artist with cosmopolitan roots has engaged in all aspects of the Argentinian tango. With her film “Blue Tango in Buenos Aires” she is now taking stock as well as embarking on a new beginning in her passionate relationship with tango as a dance, as music, and with its native city Buenos Aires.

In her film journal, Alexandra Prusa seeks out the people and the town of Buenos Aires, as well as the places and questions relating to her lifelong theme, and she does so with the same curiosity and as receptively as the first time when she fell in love with the tango.

“Blue Tango in Buenos Aires” is a modern music and dance documentary about the world capital of tango, offering a great experience even to younger audiences who are not necessarily familiar with the theme.

Five songs, co-written and performed by Alexandra Prusa, with surprising sounds and visual clips, mark the chapters of her densely packed journal.

All electronic composing and musical accompaniment come from ReplicaNorma, an intriguing new Paris group.

Universal Music Switzerland will be putting the CD “Blue Tango” with the film music and other interpretations of Alexandra Prusa on the market soon after the DVD.
